Level 3 Digital Technologies

13DIG
Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs K. Gray, Mr D. Hullen.

Topics Covered

Students spend the first weeks completing an inquiry to find and propose an authentic project that they can undertake on behalf of a client, such as a staff member at school.  The scope and feasibility of this project is decided in consultation with the teacher.

Students then have most of the rest of the school year to incrementally design and develop the outcome to their client's specifications.  All students learn skills common across all projects and take them to a minimum standard, but some learning is on an as-needed basis.  The teacher closely guides and monitors progress and learning requirements through regular check-ins with each student.

The external assessment is a report written in class time in Term 4.  Students reflect on developing their outcome from inception in the inquiry, through design and development iterations, and eventual delivery to the client.

Level 3 Digital Technologies

Digital Technologies are transforming how we live; shaping our homes and workplaces, changing the way that we interact with each other and live our everyday lives.  Incorporating digital technologies into teaching and learning programmes will support young people to develop the confidence and skill not only to use digital technologies (DT) but to design and build digital systems.
